Reading Log

Welcome to my site!

So glad to be back blogging!  Have you been having your students read every night for 20 minutes.  Here is a FREE Reading Log for the month of April.

I am on Spring Break this past week and trying to get my Blog back up and running.  I am also trying to start selling on TpT.  Wish me luck.  This is new and uncharted territory for me.

Random Sunday Smorgasbord

Ok, here goes.  I am linking up with Michelle at Fabulous in First for the summer linky party.

Random #1
I did it!  Today my family walked in the 5k Chicago VisionWalk held at Busse Woods, Elk Grove Village.  I made the whole walk!  I did it last year and this year.  I must be getting better.  The previous years, and we have done this 8 years now, I did not make it to the end.  It is a walk 1/2 way out and then turn around so you can actually turn around at any time.  Out of the 900 walkers today about 100+ are blind.  They were with their families using their "canes" or seeing eye dogs to walk the course.  I have 2 children affected.  My son is legally blind and my daughter is headed that way.  Oh, they also have some hearing loss too (Usher Syndrome).

So proud that I finished the walk.  So proud of my family for raising money for this wonderful organization (Foundation Fighting Blindness).

Random #2
It was a wonderful weekend.  My daughter and her boyfriend drove in from Iowa on Saturday.  They came in for the walk.  So it was family pizza night at Langel's for all of us.  Ray, my husband, and 3 of our daughters, 2 grandsons, and 1 boyfriend enjoyed fine food and fine conversation for several hours.  Isn't family time great?

Random #3
School has ended!  The last day was Friday.  No more kiddos.  But teachers have to report all week to clean their rooms and do paperwork.  That is OK, as long as it does not get real hot.  We have no air-conditioning in the classrooms.  And we don't have to report as early.  I get 1 more hour of sleep in the morning.  YEAH!

Random #4
Looking forward to the summer and all the plans.  Going to Colorado for a Vision Conference with my daughter Joanne ... leaving June 18th.  My very good friend, Sister Jeanette, will be picking us up from the airport.  We are staying with her one night and most of Thursday before the conference starts.  Sister Jeanette taught in Chicago for 35 years before her order sent her to Boulder a few years ago.  She has visited Chicago a few times and stayed with us, but I have never gone out there to see her.

The Vision Conference will be fantastic!  We went last year when it was in Baltimore.  We learned so much about current research for the Blind and Visually Challenged.  We made lots of new friends and networked with them.  Cannot wait to reconnect!

Random #5
My book The Daily 5 (second edition) will be here tomorrow so I can link up with the Daily 5 Book Study. Here is to catching up on Educational reading and Pleasure reading this summer.

Have a Great One!

LAST DAYS OF SCHOOL

Only 4 days left and the weather gets HOT.  No air conditioning in my room so we are bringing water bottles.

Happy Birthday to our wonderful volunteer,  Ms. Adams.

Christmas is coming!

We are busy getting ready for our Christmas program this Thursday evening.  Our first graders are singing "O Christmas Tree" and "Must be Santa."  We are ready!

One verse of "O Christmas Tree" will be in German.  Heaven help me, but I know French and a little Spanish.  I have never spoken German.  We listened to and practiced with a YouTube video to get our German correct.  I just hope no one in the audience will know if we make a mistake.  I know they will be doing a FANTASTIC job!!

A kids Santa suit is on its way to my home via Amazon and the boy who will bounce around in it will do a FANTASTIC job also.  He gets to do that for the Preschoolers and Kindergarteners and then for our second song.

This time of year the students are very fidgety.  They cannot wait for school to end this week and be on vacation for 2 weeks.

Merry Christmas to everyone!

October 2nd we visited County Line Apple Orchard in Hobart, IN.  Their school tour is the BEST!  Students learned "P" words -- photosynthesis, pollination, picker-people-upper.  We located the queen bee in one of the glass hives.  We learned the bee dance.

Here are some pictures of our field trip.
